This conference is the fourth one of the series, following the frist one held in Hong Kong in November 2002 the second one in Beijing in June 2004, and the third one in Xi'an in June 2005.

Economists are invited to submit abstracts (500 words or more) or papers for presentation consideration. Both theoretical and empirical papers will be considered. Papers that address the following issues (but not limited to) are especially welcome:

  • effects of mainland China’s and Taiwan's accession to the WTO on their own economies and/or other economies, especially other Asian economies;

  • trade and investment relations, rivalry, and interdependence between China and other Asian economies;

  • trade issues faced by developing countries, with or without relevance to the WTO;

  • China and other Asian economies before, during, and after the Asian crisis;

  • trade and currency policies of China and other Asian economies

  • WTO and developing countries.

If interested, please submit a draft of your paper (or an extended 500+ word abstract), preferably by e-mail to Qian Sun and Kar-yiu Wong, stating your affiliation, academic rank, mailing and e-mail addresses, and fax and phone numbers by December 31, 2005 to:

If a paper is accepted for presentation, a final version is due on May 15, 2006.

While people are encouraged to find their own funding for attending the conferences, subsidies are available to a limited number of participants to cover part of the travel/accommodation expenses. If you need travel/accommodation subsidy, please send Lin or Wong a note, stating the amount needed and the lowest airfare between your place and Beijing, China.

RDE Special Issue

We are working with the Review of Development Economics to publish a special issue for selected papers presented in the conference. If you are interested in having your paper considered for the special issue, please indicate your interest in your submission.

Papers considered for the issue will be revised after the conference, and will go through the normal refereeing process.
