The following is a tentative program and is subject to change. It will be updated frequently as new information is available.

Unless stated otherwise, the class will meet three to three-and-a-half hours each morning from Monday to Friday, August 13 - 31, 2007. The class will begin at 9:00 am, sharp, and the first lecture will end at 10:30 am, followed by a break of 15 minutes. The second lecture of the day will begin at 10:45 am and end at 12:15 pm.

The afternoons are time for the students to get and read references, and to prepare for a group paper. The students can get library resources and computer facilities at various libraries on the campus.

Field trip is usually a whole day event. Students will wait for the shuttle bus at the specified time and location, and will be sent back to (usually) the same location after the field trip.

Week 1 (August 13 - 17)

  • Monday: open ceremony, explanation of the program, introduction speeches on  the University of Washington and its facilities, and the life in Seattle; tour of the campus
  • Tuesday: writing academic papers and reports: the use of English, grammatical mistakes to avoid, organization of papers, styles, references, and so on
  • Wednesday: talk by Scott Rembrandt of Korea Economic Institute. (There may be a second speaker on that day.)

  • Tuesday: Field Talk 1
  • Wednesday: Field Trip
  • Thursday: deadline for submission of the outline of the group papers; Field Talk 2
  • Friday: Field Talk 3

Week 3 (August 27 - 31)

  • Monday: Field Talk 4
  • Tuesday: Field Trip or Field Talk 5
  • Wednesday: Field Talk 5 or 6
  • Thursday: Student Paper Presentation
  • Friday: Closing Ceremony

Note: Field Talks are lectures on the frontier of some of the economic and BA fields such as macroeconomics, international economics, finance, international business, and so on. The actual fields to be covered depend on the availability of speakers, who need to be experienced and well-known in each field. So far, Stephen Turnovsky of the University of Washington and Shin-ichi Fukuda of Tokyo University have agreed to give talks. We are inviting more speakers for the program.
